Pangea — Art project by Elena Artuso

The memory of places becomes matter

PANGEA is a contemporary painting project rooted in the earth.
Earth and sand collected from places of profound intensity, sacred, historical, symbolic or wounded, physically enter the work.
Not to represent those places, but to bring their force, memory and imprints into the work.
Painting thus becomes a space of encounter between geography and interiority, between fragment and continuity.

About

An independent practice, between listening and matter

Elena Artuso lives and works in Italy. After a classical education and studies in economics, she pursued a career in marketing and begins her visual art practice later in life, embarking on an independent artistic path. Her painting practice emerges from listening and intuition and develops in dialogue with matter, between intention and possibility.

The Works

Geography becomes painting

Each work emerges from the encounter between collected earth and the painterly gesture. The collected materials retain their origin and, within the work, enter into relation, giving form to new geographies of memory, matter and belonging.

THE SOILS

From places to the work

Collecting soil is an integral part of PANGEA’s artistic process. Each place is chosen for its intensity and resonance. The soil is collected directly and preserved until it enters the work. Each fragment carries the origin of the place it comes from: a matter that preserves memories, imprints and stratifications. Through the painterly gesture, the soil enters the work and becomes part of a new geography. Every place leaves an imprint.
