Geographies of belonging
Every relationship is a geography of lived places
Every relationship is a geography of lived places. PANGEA began with soils collected from places I have personally travelled through. Today, the project opens to the intimate geographies of others. The soils collected by those who choose to commission a work enter the painting to tell the story of a family, a couple, a friendship, a bond that changes or continues beyond presence. It is not a portrait of the person or the relationship. It is a portrait of the places that preserve its imprints. Each work receives a title: a message that conveys the meaning of the bond, the story and the places from which it emerges. The soils bring memories and stratifications into the work. The painterly gesture receives them, recomposes them and transforms them. Not a memory to preserve, but a story to receive and transform. An act of care within matter.
